Beliefs of the Paden City Christian Church

The Christian Church of Paden City, West Virginia, is an undenominational church. We are an independent Christian Church. That is, we have no Headquarters, nor do we wear any denominational name. We seek to proclaim only New Testament Christianity. We declare our loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ. We live our life as patterned in the New Testament and lived by our Lord Jesus Christ.

bullet

We believe in one God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe God is the creator of all things. He is eternal.

bullet

We believe that Jesus Christ is Gods only begotten Son and Savior of the whole world.

bullet

We believe the Bible is God’s words and is the only inspired written word of God. It is inerrant.

bullet

We believe that the church today is the body and bride of Christ.

bullet

He will return to take his bride with him to Heaven.

bullet

We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person. Those saved through Christ Jesus will be given eternal life in Heaven; those lost without Jesus will suffer eternal damnation in Hell.

bullet

We believe that all people are lost in their sins and the only way out of this ‘lostness’ is through our Lord Jesus.

To receive forgiveness of sins (salvation), one must do the following

1. All sinners must have FAITH in the Lord Jesus. We must have faith that he can save us. We must believe that we are lost and that Jesus died on the cross for us; that he died in our place. He took on our sins to bring us the possibility of redemption.
MARK 16:15, 16. JOHN 3:16, 36. ACTS 10:43, 16:31.

2. All sinners must REPENT of sin. Repentance means ‘to turn’ from sin and self in obedience to Jesus and His authority over our life.
LUKE 13:1 - 5. ACTS 2:38, 3:19, 26:20.

3. All sinners must CONFESS the name of Jesus publicly. Confession means to “say the same thing.” We say the same thing as Jesus says about Himself. By confession, we agree that Jesus is the only way out of our sin life and its guilt and shame.
MATTHEW 10:32 -33. MARK 8:38. ROMANS 10:9 - 10.

4. All sinners must be BAPTIZED BY IMMERSION in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. At immersion, we become a member of the body of Christ. We are added to His church.
MATTHEW 28:19 -20. MARK 16:15 - 16. ACTS 2:38, 22:16.
I PETER 3:21.

5. All Christians must then WALK the new life of faith in Christ Jesus. We have the words of God, the Bible, and the indwelling Holy Spirit to help us in this walk.
ACTS 2:42. REVELATION 2:10.

Therefore we say We are saved by grace through faith at baptism.

WORSHIP

Scriptural worship has these following elements, which our church uses as its standard: the study of God's word, fellowship, the Lord's Supper, and prayer. In His Word, God has asked that giving also be a part of a Christian's responsibility. Also the Bible instructs us to sing and give praise to God. Instrumental music in the pages of the New Testament is neither commanded nor is it condemned. Each congregation has the liberty to choose to use or not to use instrumental music in its worship. We do not make this a test of fellowship. Our church, to enhance our praise and worship, utilizes instruments, but occasionally sings a capella. We believe that Paul's command to sing "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16) allows the freedom to do both.

ABOUT US

Having no denominational status, no hierarchy, no headquarters and no official voice, we are autonomous and have fellowship with other Christian Churches/Churches of Christ as a part of a "brotherhood". We are associated with churches that began to return to the basic tenants of Christianity as is described in the New Testament. This brotherhood is commonly referred to as "The Restoration Movement". We wish simply to be known as Christians

The roots of our brotherhood's separation from the Disciples of Christ can be traced back to 1927. Our churches had a difference of opinion over a move towards an official organization of the Disciples. As the Disciples began to participate in the Ecumenical Movement, separation became inevitable between our two bodies. In 1968, the Disciples officially became a denomination, at that time our independent churches asked to be removed from the Disciples' books.

Often people confuse us with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Often people confuse us with the (non-instrumental Churches of Christ). We are simply (Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ) who take the "centrist" position.

We desire unity of Christ's disciples, as did Jesus, but we do not seek unity for unity's sake. We hold to the position that the New Testament, and the New Testament alone, needs to be our common ground of union.
